So what exactly does it mean to "call your shots"?![]() Calling a shot. What does it mean? The ability to know where your shot hit without looking for the hole on the target. This is a skill that takes some practice. Some of the elements are: *Sight Picture. With focused repetitions and the ability to keep your eyes focused on the front sight plane (not letting the eyes travel to the target in order to check for holes) you can "call your shot" based on the sight picture and alignment at the moment the round is fired. *Proper Trigger Press A good clean trigger press in a straight, rearward motion will not move the gun to the left or right as you come through the break wall. The shot will land where your sights are. If you are pushing/pulling the trigger to the left or right, this will move your point of impact to the left or right during the press. Thus, moving the point of impact. *Grip and Recoil Even circumfrencial pressure throughout the trigger press will also ensure the shot doesn't deviate from your point of aim. The gun will track up then down through recoil, settling back in to the point of aim. If grip tension has changed through the trigger press, it can be felt in the unnatural movement of the recoil. As you practice sighted fire repetitions, you will begin to "feel" these movements. Thus aiding in calling your shot. This may seem like a lot to think about and learn, but it is definitely possible to achieve and will take your shooting skills to the next level. You can practice this by keeping a second target next to you. Mark where you think the sights were as the gun went off. Track your shots and see how they compare to what is on your actual target. As always: only YOU can prevent ballistic masterbation. Shooting skills: get you some.

Practice makes perfect. Or does it?Practice makes perfect, right? Wrong! Practice makes permanent. Are you going to the range with a purpose? A plan? Or are you wasting expensive ammo just to reinforce bad habits? Every time you touch a firearm, you are building and strengthening neuro-pathways. Commonly, and incorrectly, known as "muscle memory". Even if the things you are doing are incorrect. These neuro-pathways between brain cells can become very difficult to break. The stronger they become, the harder they are to break. However, you can prevent and correct this! Eliminate that false sense of confidence. Find your failure points. Set goals. Make a plan. How? Easy! Make the commitment to yourself right now. Set yourself up for success! Build a great foundation for your future training. Hop into Primary Handgun 01. This course is run by DMI Performance and hosted by Phoenix Rising. Side-by-side. When we all come together, we all grow together. What a fantastic day today! Thanks to the graciousness of the staff over at The Firing Line in Westland, we had the opportunity to spend hours together in the range. When instructors come together and test their skills, it's inevitable that growth, networking, and bonding will occur. This was absolutely the case today. As a training counselor, I want nothing more than to see the instructors that have come through us succeed. Getting together to work on skill-building is one of those things that can facilitate growth and success. I'm very proud to see all these individuals coming together, and even bringing people into the fold. The stronger we are together, the more successful we can be. When an instructor comes through Phoenix Rising, they are a part of a family. We stick together and help each other grow. Huge things are happening with these amazing individuals. And I'm beyond blessed to be a part of it. Christie https://www.phoenixrisingfirearmacademy.com/become-an-instructor.html#/
